Either Fred Funk is that good, or Pete Dye’s Crooked Stick in Carmel, IN is just that much of a pushover. I tend to think that Funk is the real deal, especially since no one in the star studded field came within 6 strokes of his winning score.
The former University of Maryland, Men’s Golf Coach shot a final round 65 to finish at 20-under par. He bested the tournament scoring record by three shots, one that Hale Irwin set in 2000. Funk was coming off a playoff loss at the previous weeks, Senior British Open, so there was no doubt that he is peaking at just the right time. Now let’s see if he can hold it together to get a win in front of the home fans at Baltimore Country Club in early October. The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is the fifth and final major of the year.
