Tiger Woods spoke for members of the media and Congressional Country Club Members on Monday afternoon. The press conference was often lighthearted and filled with great sound bytes from the world’s best golfer, not to mention best host.

"Now I can go out and do my job.. and win."
“I want to officially announce that I’m committing to the tournament,” said Tiger, as if that was a huge shocker. He clearly was disappointed that he couldn’t play, much less visit his own tournament last summer after serious knee surgery.
Tiger watched the event from his couch, as Anthony Kim went on to win the tournament. He admittedly had his cell phone in his hand the whole time, constantly calling his staff to receive updates. “Something I’ve learned to handle is the responsibilities.. I have an incredible staff who have done such a great job with this event. Now I can go out and do my job and win,” stated Tiger when asked how tough it is to win your own event.
Woods also had a few nice comments about the event and the area. “This is a great golfing town. A great sports town in general. We’ve had great support. What we’re doing for the kids and military, people understand that.”
And of course the question of the tournament leaving town for two years came into play, said Woods, “We want to come here as long as Congressional wants us. It’s a very historic golf course and one that the players love to play.” Of course the membership has already approved the event at Congressional from 2012 to 2014.
The Tiger Woods Learning Foundation was a heavy topic and tournament director Greg McLaughlin spoke of several of their key initiatives including the Earl Woods Scholarship program that is providing full 4-year scholarships to local DC Metro students. However a location for a permanent Tiger Woods Learning Center D.C. Chapter is still to be determined. “It has been longer than we expected,” added Woods, “This financial climate has made things more complicated.”
